Please note that the price information in this article was based on data from 2018 and may now be outdated.

If you want your outdoor concrete surface leveled, it is much cheaper than having your indoor surface leveled. Of course, if you want to level your floors, it will be cheaper than if you need your foundations leveled. Here are some estimates:

  • Outdoor concrete surface leveling (walkways, driveways, paths..) – starting from $300
  • Concrete foundation leveling – $500 for minor repairs and $3000 and up for structural repairs.

Since there are many variables that influence this price, you can only get a good estimate if you ask a professional concreter to come to your site and inspect the situation. Be prepared that a structural engineer is needed in some situations when it comes to planning a foundation restructuring and fixing.

How Do Your Repair Concrete Walkway?

Again, this depends on the way you want to repair it. Depending on the type of repair that needs to be done, you have three options at your disposal:

  • Covering it with self-leveling concrete
  • Cutting out and replacing a part of the driveway
  • Level the concrete walkway by mudjacking

You should pick the option that works for you, depending on the money you want to invest and the extent of the repair.

How Thick Can You Use Self-Leveling Concrete?

The thickness of self-leveling concrete is marked on the packaging by the manufacturer. Self-leveling concrete is easy and you can probably do it yourself. You can do this in several steps:

  1. Clean the walkway with pressure washer and leave to dry.
  2. Apply the latex primer and leave to dry for 12 hours.
  3. Spot the lowest parts of your slab that need leveling.
  4. Mix the self-leveling concrete according to instructions.
  5. Pour the mixture into the lowest parts and level it with a trowel.
  6. Wait until completely dry – approximately 24 hours.

How to Replace a Part of Pathway?

Cutting out and replacing a part of your walkway is a great idea if you want to smooth the surface and get rid of the cracks while leveling your concrete slab. You replace a part of pathway by following these steps:

  1. Cut out the part of concrete walkway.
  2. Use formwork to mark the new walkway section.
  3. Mix the concrete and pour it into your frame.
  4. Level the concrete carefully.

Cutting out a piece of walkway and pouring in a new concrete slab is a more thorough solution that will last longer. It means no more cracks or uneven walkway.

How Much Does a Concrete Slab Cost?

Replacing a broken concrete slab with a new one can cost you from $50 to $85 per square metre but these prices may vary. You can expect to pay more for the concrete slabs that should be positioned in difficult to reach areas. The same goes for complex concrete slab laying works.

What Does Mudjacking Do?

Slabjacking or mudjacking raises the sunken concrete slabs by injecting material into the space below the slab. It is done by drilling the holes in the concrete slab and then pouring the material through those holes. In that way, the concrete slabs are raised from below.

The material used for injecting used to be mud, or more precisely, a mixture of grout and local soil. That’s where the word ‘mudjacking’ comes from. Today, there are special foams and other materials used for this purpose.

How to Level Concrete Foundations?

You have three options when it comes to leveling your concrete foundations:

  • Mudjacking
  • Piering
  • Underpinning

Foundations are extremely important. If they are not fixed when they start to deteriorate, it can have drastic consequences to the integrity of your house.

That is why you need a structural engineer to give you their expert opinion about what is the best option for your problem. Once they say what needs to be done, you need a good concreter to do your concreting for you.

How Much Does Mudjacking Cost?

Expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $1500 for mudjacking your foundations. Some concreters charge around $150 per drilled hole and add their time to that.

Your price will depend on whether your foundations are easily reachable, how much they have sunken and how much damage there is to them.

If you are using polyurethane foam for slab jacking, it will cost more, but it will be quicker and more resilient. Moreover, the foam slab jacking is quicker as it dries off faster. This means you can

What Are Foundation Piers?

Foundation piers are used to fortify and raise the sinking foundations. By using hydraulic equipment, the piers are positioned deep under the foundations in the precisely determined points.

This is probably the most expensive type of concrete foundation leveling. You cannot do piering without the project from a structural engineer.

The costs of foundations piering can easily climb to well over $10,000 However, it is also the most permanent solution. You will also have the costs of ground assessment, digging, derooting and the piers themselves. If there is more unexpected work needed, you will have to cover it, as you cannot leave this project unfinished half way.

If your foundations were sinking due to seismic activity, ground sinking or any other serious issue – foundations piering will help that and secure the foundations in place.

This is much more comprehensive and complex repair than simple concrete leveling. It is a structural repair and that is why the costs are running so high. While your concreting is an important part of this project, you will need more than just a concreters for it.

On the other hand, without good and experienced concreters who have already done this type of work, the job cannot get done either.
