Cost of Door Installation
Standard door installation can start from $170 in labour costs per door. Often, the job can be a simple one for a standard hollow core or solid door that an experienced handyman may be able to hang. While tempting for DIY work, door installation can be frustrating when the size of the door does not fit neatly, and planing the sides may be required. However the costs for bi-fold doors and other specialised custom doors can start from $500 each. If very heavy doors are involved, you may need to hire more than one person to lift each one, adding considerably to the cost.
Labour rates for door installers in Australia charge an average of $35/hr for their services in 2017. Prices vary, though. Depending on certain factors such as the size of the task and the type of door to be installed, a door installation job can go as low as $30/hr or as high as $55/hr for more specialised types of doors such as bi folds and custom doors.
Where do these prices come from?

Four factors that open doors to higher or lower prices
The overall amount you’ll pay your door installer will be determined by several elements of your job. Here are some cost determinants that you should be aware of:
Type of Door
There are different door types to choose from; each of them differ in product price and cost to install. If it’s just a basic hinged door you want, you can expect the cost to be relatively low. Others — bi-fold doors, sliding doors, French doors, double doors, etc. — are more difficult to install, so they command a higher price.
Material
Wood, glass, veneers/PVC, and steel are some of the most commonly used materials for doors.
Location
Generally, exterior doors are more expensive to install as they are bigger and heavier than interior doors. This means that tradies will have a harder time installing them and will need more materials and manpower to complete the job.
Existing structure
If you’re replacing an old door with the same type — like replacing an old hinged door with a new hinged door that’s the same size — you don’t need to worry too much about the expenses. However, if you’re replacing your door with a different type and size, modifications to the existing space must be done.

Why “state” matters in determining cost
If you live in Qld, now is a good time to have a new door installed as the average price of door installation is around $45/hr.
On the other hand, the cost of installing a door is steeper in NSW with average costs at approximately $60/hr. This is only a little higher than the average price in Vic, which is around $55/hr.
Installing a door isn’t as simple as many think. You’ll always have to take a lot of things into consideration to keep the job within your budget. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to get in touch with expert door installers on ServiceSeeking.com.au.
