This rate covers all bases including compliance certificates and permits if required for the jobs. Labour fees typically range from $6,000 to $10,000; expect to pay an additional $12,000 to $14,000 for materials.

If you’re keen on changing the full layout of your kitchen or you need new fixtures and fittings, prepare an extra $2,000 to $4,000 for these add-on services.

Hear from our customers

According to a survey of ServiceSeeking.com.au customers who have revamped their kitchens in the past couple of years, kitchen renovation costs typcially range from $5,000 to $30,000.

This gap in prices resulted from a variety of factors — mainly the duration of the projects. For instance, jobs that took about one week to one month to complete have prices ranging from $5,000 to $15,000. On the other hand, kitchen renovations that lasted for two to four months got pricier at $25,000 – $30,000.

One customer, though, renovated her kitchen for a period of eight months and spent only $15,000 in total. She only hired three tradies for the project and DIY-ed other tasks like painting and interior design.

Factors Affecting Cost

Due to several underlying factors, no two kitchen renovation projects will cost exactly the same. When you’re looking for a builder to renovate your kitchen, take note of the following elements that can bring down or amp up the cost of your project.

Labour costs

Licensed builders cost more than unlicensed tradesmen, but they can assure you of high-quality workmanship. Hiring licensed builders will greatly help you avoid shoddy workmanship.

Complexity of the job

The more features you want for your new kitchen, the more it will cost. Examples of these are: under cabinets, additional sinks, glass splashbacks, benchtops, etc.

Cost of materials

Choosing higher quality materials will cost more initially. However, it might be better for you in the long run because they are more durable and more likely to last longer.

Size of the kitchen

The size of your kitchen is one of the main factors you should consider if you want to renovate. Small kitchen renovations will of course cost less than bigger projects.

Timeline of the project

You need to check the tradesman’s hourly rates before you hire them. Since many licensed builders charge on an hourly basis, kitchen renovations will cost more if they take a longer time to complete.
