A tradie skill shortage in Perth has made the cost of renovating 13 percent more expensive than this time last year, with the average hourly rate of a tradie sitting at $70.72.
ServiceSeeking.com.au’s quarterly Tradie Price Index released today puts the price of a tradie in Perth well above other capital cities in Australia such as Sydney ($64.97) and Melbourne ($57.94).
“Such a big price hike comes down to a lack of supply of tradies relative to the current levels of demand. For renovators in Perth right now, quote comparison is an absolute must if you don’t want to pay a fortune”, says ServiceSeeking.com.au CEO Jeremy Levitt.
So, in such a tight market, how much can you expect to pay for a tradie in Perth?
Perth Electricians are revealed to be the most expensive in Australia, charging an hourly rate of $91.78 on average. That price is 8 percent higher than the same time last year, and 3.4 percent more expensive than just three months ago.
Plumbers come in as the second most expensive tradie in Perth, with an average hourly cost of $91.27, up 1.6 percent since the previous quarter.
Landscaping recorded a landmark hike in price since this time last year, where the average hourly rate grew 31.1 per cent from $56.90 to $74.62.
Hourly rates are gross and aside from cost of labour, cover the cost of running a business (insurance, tools, transport, superannuation etc.).
The prices were derived by comparing a sample of 52,000 quotes submitted during the FY17 Q2 through ServiceSeeking.com.au, the website for getting any job done from tradies to professional services.
