NSW Wins Best Paid Tradies

(3rd November 2017) It’s been a great year for tradies in NSW with a 9 per cent hike in average hourly rates, making them the best paid in the country. What keeps NSW at the top of the game is consistent growth throughout the year according to new data released Over the last quarter alone NSW recorded a 3 per cent rise in prices, putting the state at 3 per cent above the average national hourly rate. NSW was also the only state to record no negative growth over the year, with every trade either raising prices or staying same.

So what can you expect to pay for a tradie over the next coming months?

Tradies that have had the most growth this year:

  • Tilers are up by 18% to $59.25/hour
  • Plumbers are up by 16% to $85.98/hour
  • Painters are up by 12% to $50.50/hour, making them the best paid in Australia.
  • Builders are up by 9% to $65.99/hour

Landscapers were not so fortunate, with 7 per cent downturn in hourly rates over the last quarter. Plasterers also did not follow the growth trend, remaining with the same hourly rate across the year.

Tradies that earn highest above the national hourly average:

  • Builders are 8% above the national average
  • Painters to are 8% above the national average
  • Tilers are 7% above the national average

Tradies that fall below the national hourly average:

  • Carpenters earn 7% less than the national average
  • Electricians earn 6% less than the national average
  • Plumbers earn 3% less than the national average

Hourly rates are “gross” rates and aside from including the cost of labour, also cover the cost of running the business including insurance, tools, work vehicles, insurance and superannuation.

The prices were derived by comparing a sample of 52,000 quotes submitted during the FY18 Q1 through, the website for getting any job done.
