It was about building a life where he could support his son, who has a disability, and bring him along for the journey. “Helping to look after my son so he could come to work with me” is how it all began, and that simple motivation continues to shape the way he runs his business today. Callans Mowing has since grown into a trusted name in the local area, known not just for tidy lawns but for good old-fashioned service. “My son likes doing it,” Murray shares, and that joy has helped steer the direction of the business from the very beginning. ![rubbish-removal-serviceseeking](https://23226544.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hub/23226544/hubfs/rubbish-removal-serviceseeking.jpg?width=1000&height=667&name=rubbish-removal-serviceseeking.jpg) Murray’s no-nonsense approach to customer service is what keeps clients coming back. “Being honest and nice” is his secret sauce, and it shows. Many of his jobs come through word of mouth or from homeowners who find him through [**ServiceSeeking.com.au**](https://www.serviceseeking.com.au/?utm_campaign=content&utm_medium=news&utm_source=business_success&utm_content=article). “Zander is very helpful with work,” he says, referring to a team member at ServiceSeeking who’s helped him connect with clients needing his services. Whether it’s a regular lawn job or a one-off tidy-up, Murray finds that being part of the platform makes it easy to link up with people who genuinely need a hand. “It’s easy to get on with,” he says of [ServiceSeeking](https://www.serviceseeking.com.au/list-your-business?utm_campaign=content&utm_medium=news&utm_source=business_success&utm_content=article), and for someone who balances work, parenting, and running a business, that kind of simplicity matters. His tools of the trade are also pretty straightforward—“internet and phone”—but it’s his attitude that really makes things work. ![rubbish removal](https://23226544.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hub/23226544/hubfs/rubbish%20removal.jpg?width=7728&height=5152&name=rubbish%20removal.jpg)*(Image source :Unsplash)* Even during challenging times, Murray doesn’t let things get him down. “When I get sick, I work harder when I get better,” he says. It’s a lesson in resilience, echoed in his go-to advice–*never give up*. Weather is one of the few things that can throw a spanner in the works. “Bit of rain one day, sun the next,” he says with a shrug. But even that doesn’t faze him. When asked how he balances work and personal life, his answer is quick and calm: “Easy. Just do it.” In five years, Murray hopes to “keep finding clients and helping them.” It’s a simple goal, but one built on consistency and care—two things that make a big difference in the world of small business. For other tradies thinking of going out on their own or joining [ServiceSeeking](https://www.serviceseeking.com.au/list-your-business?utm_campaign=content&utm_medium=news&utm_source=business_success&utm_content=article), Murray’s journey is a reminder that you don’t need to overcomplicate things. Be honest, be kind, and just keep showing up. That’s what’s grown Callans Mowing from a personal mission into a top-rated local service. And that’s something worth mowing for.
