A Woollahra Courtyard, and the Bricklayers Who Got It Right

In Woollahra’s tidy streets of townhouses and compact courtyards, Michael wasn’t planning anything grand. He simply wanted to improve the way his small rear yard functioned.

The issue was practical. The existing brick border separating the paving from the garden beds wasn’t high enough. During heavy rain, the soil would shift, and the runoff became frustrating. He needed to add an extra 2-3 horizontal rows of bricks along the existing line—no more than 250 bricks in total—and source materials that matched those already there.

When comparing ServiceSeeking.com.au to other ways of finding local businesses, Michael found it better because of the “quality matches for the job at hand”. Instead of wading through generic listings, he connected with tradespeople who were clearly suited to the scope of work.

What left the strongest impression was our platform’s “transparency, ease of use, and immediate responses by qualified parties.”

The job was awarded to Michael Fillis of M Tech Constructions, a family-owned and operated business with more than 20 years’ experience across construction, renovations and landscaping throughout Sydney.

From the outset, it felt like the right fit. “It was a quality result at a reasonable price, delivered by a father-and-son team who were clearly experienced, professional and decent,” Michael said.

The brickwork blended neatly with the existing structure, lifting the garden beds just enough to improve soil retention and reduce runoff. It looked as though it had always been there.

What started as a landscaping adjustment also opened the door to another improvement inside the home. “In addition to the landscaping bricklaying, they also retiled the walls and floor of a half bathroom. They sourced the materials and did a quality job at a reasonable price. Much appreciated.”

There’s something reassuring about that kind of response. In the end, it wasn’t about the number of bricks laid. It was about finding the right people for the job, getting immediate and relevant responses, and seeing a small but meaningful improvement carried out with experience and care.
