If you’re looking for easy-to-maintain, budget-friendly flooring, vinyl is probably one of the best flooring options for you. Here are a few simple tips on how to keep vinyl flooring sparkling clean.

  1. Regular vacuuming, sweeping, and dry mopping the floor to remove surface dirt are the easiest ways to keep your vinyl flooring clean. Make a habit of sweeping your floors every day.
  2. Keep your floor dry. Wipe up spills as soon as possible, and don’t drench vinyl floors with an overly wet sponge or mop. Water may seep in and destroy the glue that holds down the vinyl.
  3. Avoid heavy-duty cleaning products. Using a sponge and plain water is the best way to get rid of dirt and stains that a soft broom or vacuum can’t remove. Another option for you is to use a simple vinegar solution to keep your vinyl flooring fresh and spotless.
  4. Use baking soda to remove stains. If plain water or a vinegar solution is not enough to take away the stains, make a paste out of baking soda and water and gently rub the stain away until it disappears.
  5. Resist the temptation to use highly abrasive cleaning tools and equipment.
  6. To keep your vinyl flooring shiny, never use paste wax or solvent-based polishes. No-wax vinyl has a clear coating that makes it shine, and using regular mop-and-wax products will only strip off its sheen.
  7. Heavy appliances and furniture can leave a dent in your vinyl flooring. Make sure to outfit large appliances with protective “feet” or floor protectors that you can find in home improvement stores and hardware stores.
  8. Use a doormat or area rug in front of doorways to lessen the dirt and grime that enters the house and clings to the floor.

These are just a few simple tips on how to keep vinyl flooring looking fresh and brand new. Sounds easy enough? If you want to have vinyl flooring installed in your home, you can check out our top flooring experts here.
