Wedding photography is simply something you can’t afford to get wrong. Photographer Sue Taylor from Global Sanctuary shares her expert secrets for getting killer wedding photos.

It’s been quite a few years now since the transition between film and digital photography, however, there seems to be a misconception that digital photographs don’t need editing as your old film photographs didn’t.

You just handed your film to the film lab and you got back perfect photos, but it’s likely you didn’t technically take those great shots. The person processing the negatives to prints actually corrected exposure and adjusted white balance among other things, to give you the best-looking print.

It is essential to edit digital photographs. Exposure, contrast and white balance need to be adjusted, and it’s nice to remove any blemishes or items from photographs to make them as perfect as possible.

When putting in a quote for a job, ensure your photographer edits all photos and releases them to you in high-resolution jpeg files, that you can take away and print. Also, check they are not watermarked.

When listing your job on Service Seeking, always supply the wedding date, and be as clear as you can with what your needs are. Include where you would like shots taken, e.g, bride’s house, groom’s house and wedding, and how long you’d like them to shoot for, e.g, right until the end of the reception.

Some people just want two or three hours, just be clear to get the most accurate quote possible. If you want an album or wall prints, mention that as well.

Check your photographer is verified through Service Seeking and that they have good feedback from other brides. Ensure there are more than just two or three weddings on their website since you can’t trust your wedding photos to a beginner. It takes years of experience to fine-tune the delicate art of wedding photography.

Professional photographers shoot in a RAW format to give the highest quality possible for us to work with and edit. They are then exported as jpeg files so you can read them on all computers and you can take them for print.

Most photographers won’t supply you with RAW images as it’s a little like asking an artist to sell you a painting half-finished. As photographers, we are artists and take great love and pride in our work.

Organise your wedding photographer for your special day.
