A teenager’s room should reflect who they are and who they want to be, so it’s best to design your kid’s room based on their hobbies and interests. It’s also important to distinguish areas of their room based on function. The sleeping and study areas should be separated from the entertainment area. You may put a small partition or a built-in bench, which can double as an extra bed during sleepovers to set them apart.

Space-saving shelves, cabinets, pigeon holes, and racks are excellent solutions for messy kids. Have them installed under seats and countertops, around doors, windows and desks and along any vacant wall space.

Natural light

Sunlight can create a big difference in every room. Consider opening walls and putting up extra windows or using glazed walls to maximise natural lighting in the room. Frosted and tinted panes are also good options for those who don’t want to use blinds, shutters and curtains on their windows.

Beds

Opening up spaces is a top priority when designing a pre-teen’s room, which is why loft beds are perfect for them. Loft beds are popular in most dormitories and premium spaces because they provide enough room for a wardrobe, sleeping area, and free space for other activities. You can even use the top space as a bed and transform the bottom into a study or closet space.

Loft beds are easy to assemble and are also available in many stores. Here are some things to remember when going for a loft bed:

  • Lofts shouldn’t be resting on movable furniture, or they might collapse
  • Lofts should be free-standing
  • Lofts must not be made from treated lumber
  • Lofts need to have safety railings

Orderliness

Kid’s rooms are usually full of clutter. Most of them don’t even bother cleaning up their mess. To help control their mess and keep their room more organised, put up more hooks where they can hang their bags, coats, or pants. You can also get a big box to store their school projects or a chest where they can put away their sports gear. A simple bin system is also helpful for separating clean clothes from dirty ones. Remember to include plenty of built-in storage to keep your kid’s room organised.
