With the many bookings you’ll make for your wedding, it can be difficult to know when the important things should take place and how things should be arranged.

All wedding photographers work differently, and their timelines vary according to when a wedding is booked and how much time they have, but ideally, the timeline would go as follows:

3 – 18 months before the wedding date
You should book your wedding photographer preferably after meeting in person, or if that isn’t possible, after viewing their portfolio online and speaking over the phone. At this time, you may not have everything planned, but give your wedding photographer as much information as possible in regards to venues, times and what you expect for the day.

1 month before the wedding date
Your wedding photographer should be in contact to discuss and confirm details such as times and locations, what difficulties may arise, such as elderly or disabled guests who may need special treatment, and any specific group shots you might want. Lots of wedding photographers ask couples for a written list of the family and friends they’d like to be photographed with so no one is forgotten on the day.

1 week before the wedding date
Again, your photographer should phone or email you to confirm all the information you have given them and to obtain the phone numbers of your bridal party or someone who will be close to you on the day.

THE Wedding Day
Your photographer should arrive 1-2 hours before the beginning of the ceremony to get shots of the bride getting ready (if that’s what you’ve organised), and progress from there.
