As Sydney’s housing construction boom begins to decline, ServiceSeeking.com.au looks back at the suburbs that have had the biggest makeover in 2017. The find-a-tradie site has designed a map which compiled 5,000 home improvement and renovation jobs submitted by customers over the year according to postcode, with booming areas in dark red, and areas of low construction in dark green.

The map indicates that residents in Western Sydney completed the highest number of renovations and home improvement jobs in 2017, at 93% more than residents in the North Shore and more than twice the amount of those in the Eastern Suburbs.

So which areas of Sydney experienced the greatest boom in construction over 2017?

  1. Western Sydney residents completed 1,197 renovation jobs
  2. South-Western Sydney residents completed 774 renovation jobs
  3. North Shore residents completed 618 renovation jobs
  4. Eastern Suburbs residents completed 528 renovation jobs
  5. Inner West residents completed 483 renovation jobs
  6. South Sydney residents completed 415 renovation jobs
  7. Northern Suburbs residents completed 345 renovation jobs
  8. Hills District residents completed 333 renovation jobs
  9. Northern Beaches residents completed 270 renovation jobs
  10. Sydney City residents completed 116 renovation jobs

“Greater Western Sydney is expanding to adapt to a growing population, and with a developing CBD in Parramatta, many white collar workers can live in these outer suburbs with less of a commute to work, and less of a mortgage,” says CEO of ServiceSeeking.com.au, Jeremy Levitt.

Residents living in the Eastern Suburbs renovated 40% more than their counterparts across the bridge in the Lower North Shore. Most notably, those living in Bondi Beach required 47% more renovation services than those in Mosman.

So which Suburbs renovated the most in 2017?

  1. Blacktown
  2. Baulkham Hills
  3. Barangaroo
  4. Quakers Hill
  5. Parramatta
  6. Castle Hill
  7. Surry Hills
  8. Ryde
  9. Carlingford
  10. Hornsby

Suburbs that renovated the least in 2017:

  1. Clontarf
  2. Clareville
  3. Roseville
  4. Willoughby
  5. Millers Point
  6. Balmain East
  7. Watsons Bay
  8. McMahons Point
  9. Church Point
  10. Berowra

Surprisingly there are some suburbs in which a significantly higher amount of residents completed renovation jobs than than their neighbours:

  • Residents in Lane Cove completed 89% more renovation jobs than their neighbours in Artarmon.
  • Residents in Auburn completed 53% more renovations than their neighbours in Granville.
  • Those living in Hornsby completed 42% more renovation jobs than their neighbours in Turramurra.

“The significant jump in house prices have pushed Sydney Siders to build or renovate homes further West, while those in the Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore completed smaller home improvement jobs in 2017 to capitalise on the booming property market.”

The data was derived by compiling over 5,000 renovations and home improvement jobs submitted in 2017 by customers through ServiceSeeking.com.au, the website for getting any job done.
