He studied as an apprenticed drywall plasterer for four years then went on to study fibrous plastering at a college of advanced education for a further two years.
Mal has worked as a plasterer for a over twenty years on many projects including the building of the Australian Parliament House in Canberra.
Mal is one of the few qualified fibrous plasterers in Australia. He won an award for his work on the entrance dome at Duntroon. He built a lot of the displays at The War Memorial and a flawless, fibrous projection screen for the Army training facility.
The techniques Mal has learnt in fibrous means that he is able to perform magic with standard drywall plastering. People have described Mal as an “artisan” as he solves problems at which others simply scratch their heads.
Over his years working in both domestic and commercial construction, Mal has developed solid skills in most areas of construction. Mal also enjoys working as a carpenter, tiler and general handyman.
Mal has recently remarried and is looking to develop a working life that is stress-free and enables him to have the time he wants to spend with his new wife.
With Small Jobs Plastering, Mal’s looking forward to lending his skills to solve some of the problems in homes around where he lives in the south of Canberra.
