ABOUT THE OWNER
I started my relationship with The Duster Dollies as a contractor before finally taking the opportunity to buy into the franchise myself.
Before discovering my new career path as a business owner I worked in Administration for 11 years for chartered accounting firms & a secretarial service, but found I wanted a change of direction. I began working as a housemaid in a hotel/motel and I was there for almost three years, cooking breakfasts, cleaning rooms and making beds etc before discovering the Duster Dollies.
This was the turning point in my life – even though I eventually left The Duster Dollies to pursue my own cleaning work, I remained on good terms with the agency owner and was eventually offered an opportunity that was too good to refuse!
For me, starting out as a cleaner was very important. I didn’t dive straight into running the agency; it was a series of stepping stones and this allowed me to understand client needs very clearly. My background in an office environment has come in handy too, in the running of the business.
Funnily enough I enjoy what I do, it gives me flexibility and time to be able to run a business as well as look after my kids which is important to me. For two years I ran the business as a single mum with a young daughter, now as well as my now teenage daughter, I also have two teenage step children and a new addition to the family, my 20 month old son to take care of as well. It is challenging but well worth it.
I also get to meet new people and build a friendship with them as well as with my cleaners.
I've learned clients are like friends they're there for either a reason, a season or a lifetime.
