Cleaning tips for your kitchen appliances

Proper food handling is key to preparing healthy meals for your family. This means keeping your kitchen appliances clean and in good working condition. But due to daily use, these appliances easily accumulate icky grease and grime and become breeding grounds for bacteria and germs.

Not to worry. You can do some bits of cleaning here and there to keep your kitchen appliances in tiptop condition. Here are some cleaning tips you can follow not only to keep them hygienic, but also to lengthen their lifespan:

  • Fridge. Immediately wipe spills before they dry. Wipe down fridge doors and handles to remove oil and sticky residues. Check perishable goods every week and throw out anything that’s old or expired.

It’s important to empty your fridge seasonally and give it a scrub down. Use a clean sponge and warm soapy water. Wash off with clean water, and dry using a clean cloth. Remove drawers and bring them to room temperature before washing them in the sink.

  • Oven. Always remember to clean off your oven after every use. Give the door and the handle a quick cleanse to get rid of grease.
To thoroughly clean the racks, you will need to remove them and soak them in warm soapy water for a couple of hours. Then scrub, rinse them off, and dry using a clean cloth.

To remove charred and stained surfaces, apply a mixture of baking soda and water, wait for the surface to soften, and then scrape them off. These oven cleaning tips will ensure you’ll be baking and roasting food without any problem for several years.

  • Dishwasher. There are a number of ways to effectively clean your dishwasher, but let’s just focus on one. This cleaning tip with vinegar will guarantee a thorough clean for your dishwasher.

Empty your dishwasher and clean its filter. Pour a cup of white vinegar into a dishwasher-safe container, place it inside, and run the washer through a cycle. The vinegar will effectively remove grease, dirt, residue, and odours. Do this every month or two.

Microwave. Don’t forget to clean your microwave oven once a week. For the exterior, use a clean soft sponge and warm soapy water. Get an almost damp cloth and use it to wipe the control panel.

When cleaning the interior, place a micro

  • wavable container or mug filled with water and a few slices of lemon in the microwave oven for three minutes. Don’t take it out for another three minutes. The steam will soften stains and deodorise your little machine at the same time.
  • Cooktop. Keep in mind that spills are difficult to clean once they cake. That’s why you should wipe your cooktop after every use. Every week, wash gas burner grates using dishwashing liquid. You should also remove and wash knobs from time to time. Use warm water and gentle dishwashing soap to wash them. Tips for cleaning cooktops vary depending on the type you have. So make sure to research other methods as well.
