After years in transport and logistics, Fred Jarrett decided it was time for a change. Long hours on the road had lost their appeal, and he found himself drawn to something more grounded—literally.
Gardening had always been part of his life, especially growing up with a dad who spent 25 years as the groundsman at Adelaide’s premier lawn tennis club. So when the opportunity came to take over a local gardening business that was winding down, Fred grabbed it.
That was the beginning of Blue Caterpillar Gardens, a one-man operation built on reliability, fair pricing, and a genuine love for making gardens better—not just tidier.
“I like getting in people’s gardens and improving them,” Fred explains. “A lot of businesses like mine don’t want to do the more time-consuming gardening tasks. I do.”

It’s that willingness to go the extra mile that’s earned him a solid base of repeat customers. And while Fred has put in the hard yards, he credits ServiceSeeking as playing a big part in getting those early jobs that helped him gain momentum.
“ServiceSeeking has helped immensely in the early days of the business,” he says. “One of my ServiceSeeking clients became a regular who referred me to his family. I’ve done a lot of work for both of them since then.”
That word-of-mouth effect is something Fred values. “Getting first-time customers that then became regular customers who referred me to friends and family”—it’s how the business grew from a quiet takeover to a steady stream of work.
Fred also appreciates the flexibility that comes with our platform. “I can use it as much as I want, rather than being locked into a contract. Also, most leads are suitable.”

Beyond the leads, Fred keeps things running smoothly with a mix of everyday tools: a phone, accounting software, and a clean, easy-to-read website. These, combined with a hands-on approach and years of quiet experience passed down from his father, give Blue Caterpillar Gardens an edge that’s not easy to replicate.
“I’ve always had an affinity for working in nature,” Fred shares. “Now I get to do it every day.”
With more homeowners keen to invest in their outdoor spaces, especially those looking for more than a quick mow, Fred’s story is proof that building a trustworthy local business is still very much possible—and sometimes all it takes is an opportunity, a rake, and the right platform to get started.
