Selling your house? Looking to update it without busting your budget? While renovation is one of the best ways to update your home, there are also modest options if you’re looking for something simple and relatively low-cost. Here are five simple ways to update your home on a budget.

1. Clean and declutter your house

It’s a very basic step, we know. However, a clean house is more appealing to realtors and buyers than a grubby one. Before you get your broom and mop, make sure that you de-clutter your area first. Get rid of old, broken household items that you never had the time to fix or give away. Once that’s done, focus on cleaning one room at a time. Don’t forget to have your carpets cleaned or wooden floors washed and waxed. Outside, make sure to mow your lawn and get rid of any weeds. Pressure wash the outside walls as well as the sidewalk to remove any dirt and grime. Arrange your planters and throw away any dried-up plants. Just remember, a clean, gleaming house that smells good is always a good sell.

2. Paint

Painting is the resident go-to of renovators, and there’s a reason why. By painting your walls, you can instantly brighten the interior and exterior of your home. When choosing a paint colour, opt for neutral ones like beige or cream. This will visually enlarge your space at the same time, create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Painting just doesn’t stop at your walls. You can also paint your furniture, floors, ceilings, etc.

3. Dress your windows

Exchange your tired-looking blinds and curtains for new ones. If your walls are neutral and plain, go for patterned curtains. You can also try the elegant Roman shades. Dress your windows for success, and your house is guaranteed to make an impression.

4. Upgrade your light fixtures

Upgrading your light fixtures is an easy and low-cost way of modernising your house. The new outlet covers look nice, and the dimmer switches are even better. Just make sure to turn off the power source before changing the covers.

5. Tie it all together

Try putting a few throw pillows on your sofa to make it more inviting. Add some flowers and a bowl of fruit on the table for that warm, homey touch. Some candles and a foot rug in the bathroom will make it more luxurious to look at. By adding a few key touches here and there, you can add that “wow” factor that buyers will find hard to resist.
